about

"Coaxing A Ghost Into The Room" is the product of breaking down/working through mental obstacles and the start of repairing my cognitive behavior therapy through several months of therapy counseling in 2019 and 2020. The title is representative of the ideas surrounding facing yourself, from where you’ve been, what you’ve done, your intentions in the present and how to healthily live with a lingering energy, the ghost.

This is the first album since “A Fault” in 2015. While I do share my time and creative efforts with a variety of bands and performance ensembles, I have, for years, been steadily building and continuing to develop mental barriers for myself and engaging in very destructive cognitive behavior. My relationship with what I do as a musician, on a large scale, and how I express myself through what I create as adoptahighway, was negatively questioned and senselessly damaged. Fortunately, I had the resources to seek counseling, and through that counseling, I have broken down some of those obstacles. Slowly I began repairing how I viewed myself, as an artist and a human.

While this music may have come to fruition, healthy cognitive behavior is an ongoing exercise, and one I will have to continue to work for the rest of my life. I’m thankful to have been shown the tools and have some knowledge on how to use them when it comes to keeping my mental health on the brighter side of gray.

I of course hope that this music reaches listeners and that they can stitch personal connection into it, but I also want to be an example of how focusing on one’s own mental health, whether it’s intensive care, group therapy, medication, one on one counseling, reaching out to friends and loved ones, or any combination thereof, is NEVER something to be ashamed of, to hide, or to be perceived as a sign of weakness. These thoughts, feelings and obstacles are normal, and are experienced by many, and the sooner we can acknowledge them and safely address them, the greater our individual and collective experience of life can be.

Thanks for taking the time and energy to listen.
